Ugg Boot Style Guide

Not sure what type of ugg boots to buy? Our styling experts have prepared the following guide to help you choose the right pair.

Which style ugg should I buy?

Classic Tall
Great for longer legged guys and gals

Classic Short
For those of us with shorter legs

The Mini
No issues with calf sizing and easy to wear

Broadly speaking there are 3 classic styles which are popular every season and a number of limit run styles introduced most seasons. If properly cared for ugg boots will last many seasons and so unless you’re buying a second or third pair it is best to stick with a pair from the classic range. The classic range is also the most versatile of all styles and can be coordinated with many outfits. The limited run styles while often very appealing are usually difficult to coordinate with many outfits.

Of the classic range you need to consider a couple of factors. First and foremost is fit, if your calves are on the larger side (15 inch and up) you will be more comfortable in a pair of classic short boots. Take a look at our ugg boots sizing guide for a little more on this. The second factor is body shape. The thick leathers used in ugg boots make for something which is cute but also clunky. Longer legs can get away with tall boots, shorter legs appear shorter. If you want to appear taller and more slender then classic short or mini are the best options. The final factor is the type of pants you intend to wear with your boots.

Which brand should I buy?

First and foremost it’s important to understand that there are alternative ugg boot brands out there (such as the one we promote on our site, Whooga). Many alternative brands provide comparable or improved quality but are branded differently. If this is important to you then you then you will need to stick with boots made by UGG Australia. Ensure you are purchasing from a reputable reseller. Fortunately for you these alternative brands are quickly gaining popularity and the competition amongst manufacturers will hopefully result in a better deal for you.

All the colors of the ugg rainbow

Which Color should I buy?

If you take a look at our ugg boot dress guide you will see that celebrities that look hot in ugg boots match color to their skin type. Darker and olive skinned celebrities look great in rich chestnuts, dark black and chocolates. Lighter skinned celebs choose Sand and Pink ugg boots. Chestnut is almost an exception to this rule as it can be considered to be a in between color and while it will look more appealing on darker complexions it still works for those of us with lighter skin. Black ugg boots are popular amongst those who do not like the clunky appearance of ugg boots. Worn with a pair of darker pants the darker boots will not appear clunky.

When can I wear ugg boots?

Ugg boots are still considered casual only. Shopping, movies or just a walk in the park all present the perfect opportunity to enjoy the insane comfort an ugg boot offers and with clever outfit selection you can still appear perfectly fashionable. Over the last 10 years ugg boots have become quite fashionable thanks to literally hundreds of style icons adopting them each winter. Admittedly they are still somewhat controversial as a fashion accessory amongst Fashionista’s and for reasons beyond our understanding they are either absolutely adored or completely hated. We’re still not brave enough to suggest you wear your ugg boots to formal occasions.
